{"id":150,"date":"2024-09-17T18:16:53","date_gmt":"2024-09-17T09:16:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huccs.hiroshima-u.ac.jp\/en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=150"},"modified":"2025-04-03T11:28:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T02:28:15","slug":"news-150","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/huccs.hiroshima-u.ac.jp\/en\/news\/news-150\/","title":{"rendered":"\u3010Oct. 10, 2024\u3011Phoenix International Center MIRAI CREA, Hiroshima University\uff08Hybrid\uff09\u3000ELSI seminar \u201dScientific Communication for Correctly Understanding Food Risks\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Speaker\uff1a<br>Takeshi Yamasaki, Chairman, NPO Science of Food Safety and Security<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many consumers have suffered health problems as a result of inadvertently consuming red yeast rice supplements that were promoted with claims such as \u201cLowers blood cholesterol with natural health foods.\u201d On the other hand, despite appropriate risk assessment and risk management being conducted, genetically modified and genome-edited foods tend to be avoided by consumers due to concerns like \u201cWill they cause unforeseen diseases in the future?\u201d or \u201cAre they dangerous because they are subject to legal regulation?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These phenomena are due to consumer risk perception bias, but at the same time, there is a need for attention to ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) on a societal level, as well as the practice of responsible research and innovation (RRI).
