Center for Collaborative Sciences

The Center for Collaborative Sciences was established in April 2023 under the Headquarters for Co-creative Future Sciences, which serves as the command center for strengthening Hiroshima University's research capabilities. The Center focuses on addressing Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues (ELSI), promoting Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in new interdisciplinary research fields, and the implementation of emerging technologies that cannot be fully captured by traditional frameworks. Additionally, the Center aims to foster next-generation, innovative research areas, and enhance the research environment and support systems needed to cultivate promising young researchers into world-class scholars.

About ELSI

Understanding ELSI/RRI

ELSI refers to the ethical, legal, and social issues that arise from advances in science and technology. It is a field of study examining how these advancements impact society, law, and moral values.

RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation) aims to ensure that innovations in science and technology align with societal needs and values. It promotes inclusiveness, sustainability, and ethical responsibility throughout the research process.

Collaborative Sciences Unit

The Collaborative Sciences Unit strengthens efforts in ELSI and RRI to address new interdisciplinary research fields and the timely implementation of science and technology, which cannot be fully captured by existing frameworks. As a hub for ELSI/RRI research, the unit collaborates with various institutions both domestically and internationally, contributing to the creation of a better society.
