Research Unit
Collaborative Sciences Unit
The Collaborative Sciences Unit strengthens efforts in ELSI and RRI to address new interdisciplinary research fields and the timely implementation of science and technology, which cannot be fully captured by existing frameworks. As a hub for ELSI/RRI research, the unit collaborates with various institutions both domestically and internationally, contributing to the creation of a better society.
Next-Generation Research Harbor
The Next-Generation Research Harbor strengthens the research environment and support systems for young researchers, fostering their development into world-class researchers, contributing to solving global challenges through science and technology.
RRI Practices
Recently, the concept of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) has gained attention in the fields of science, medicine, and engineering. RRI focuses on questions such as "What kind of society do we want to live in?" and addresses how we think about society today.

-
Seminars
Research Capability Enhancement Seminars
We invite lecturers from various domestic and international institutions to share the latest research trends, strategies for securing research funding, and ways to promote interdisciplinary and international cooperation. The seminars also cover methods for disseminating research results, enhancing research impact, and nurturing and guiding young researchers, which are all essential for improving research capabilities.
-
Discussions
Various Seminars and Lectures
We regularly host seminars and lectures as a platform for participants to share knowledge and perspectives, fostering the generation of new ideas. By exchanging opinions from diverse viewpoints, we provide opportunities to gain insights into solving various challenges while also promoting interaction among participants.
-
Workshops
ELSI Hiroshima Workshops
We invite lecturers from universities and research institutions engaged in ELSI/RRI research. These workshops focus on the distinctive ELSI/RRI research and practices of each university, sharing the strengths and weaknesses of ELSI/RRI research in Japan. This initiative is held regularly to establish an ELSI network in Japan (both at the organizational and individual levels) and to strengthen Japan’s overall ELSI/RRI efforts.
-
Education
ELSI Hiroshima Workshops
We actively invite students and young researchers interested in ELSI/RRI research, providing them with opportunities to interact with researchers currently working in the field. Through these interactions, we explore ways to cultivate the next generation of ELSI/RRI researchers and explore future developments.
Project
Collaborative Sciences Unit
Promotion of ELSI/RRI Research
The unit is actively involved in writing ELSI/RRI research papers and hosting seminars and workshops with researchers engaged in ELSI/RRI research both domestically and internationally. The unit also actively collaborates with scientists at Hiroshima University.
Promotion of ELSI/RRI Research with Citizen and Patient Participation
The unit organizes seminars and workshops aimed at promoting research that reflects ELSI/RRI perspectives in studies involving citizen and patient participation.
