Summary:
The rapid advancement of science and technology offers unprecedented opportunities to cure diseases, alleviate suffering, and extend healthy human life. To ensure that these benefits are realized and shared in fair and inclusive ways, we should engage in social deliberation about what makes life valuable, what it means to die well, and how well-being can be conceived and measured. Such questions—among others—lie at the heart of Value Theory, one of the central fields of contemporary ethics.
This seminar invites participants to engage with current debates within Value Theory and explore the values that shape ongoing ethical controversies in emerging biotechnologies and beyond.
Host: Uehiro Division for Applied Ethics, Hiroshima University
